GEMA, which stands for Gesellschaft für musikalische Aufführungs- und mechanische Vervielfältigungsrechte, is a German performance rights organization that collects royalties on behalf of musicians and composers. For public events, GEMA means that event organizers must obtain a license and pay royalties for the music that is played at their event. This ensures that the creators of the music are fairly compensated for the use of their work. Failure to obtain a GEMA license for public events can result in legal consequences and fines. **
